Evolution, Being An All-Star and a BossLady Obsession

REAL-LIFE-INTERVIEW_MEGWho are you, sister? Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Meg Cassidy! I’m a sports fan, dog lover, 2014 Elevate sister, runner and writer, among other things. I live on my own in Connecticut in an adorable apartment that I’m still in the process of decorating. I’m so lucky to have a job I love, working as an associate producer at ESPN on SportsCenter.

If the following things were professional sports, I would be an All-Star: sleeping until 10am, yelling when I see dogs/animals on TV, collecting magazines with pictures of Tom Brady in them, coming up with puns, having Google hangouts with long-distance friends and family, buying myself flowers.

Let’s do some one word answers. Ready, set, go!

Morning Drink? Green tea first, then cold brew coffee with coconut milk.
Indulgence? Fancy dark chocolate.
Lusting after? A leather jacket.
Spirit Animal? Gazelle.
Head Space? Excited.
Heart Space? As open as it’s ever been.
Bloom of Choice? Roses with carnations (carnoses).
Turn-on? Mental toughness.
Go-to Gemstone? I don’t really have a go-to, and my jewelry collection is pretty diverse. I do love wearing garnets, pearls and rose quartz.
Celebrity Icon? Amy Poehler.
Favorite compliment? Anything having to do with light/glow/radiance. I was once told by a stranger on a train, while riding to Fenway Park, that my eyes light up when I talk about baseball. I was speechless.

What does practicing joy mean to you? Following what my heart wants and needs in any given moment. It’s a combination of what would FEEL GOOD and what would SERVE ME. Sometimes it’s going for a run in the snow, sometimes it’s grabbing a couple of beers with friends after work – and realizing that even though both are totally different, they both are valuable.

Biggest life lesson you’ve learned lately? ASK MORE QUESTIONS. So many headaches, mistakes, and confusion can be avoided through just being curious. Even if it means temporarily feeling silly or uninformed – it’s better in the long run, and it often opens up more communication and understanding.

What’s your definition of success? Success is when your longest days at work are some of your favorite ones. Success is being lit up by what you see when you look at your calendar. And it’s seizing an opportunity to make your own or someone else’s day better – no matter how big or small.

Name 3 things from your Life List that light you up.

Go horseback riding at a vineyard.

Take a surfing lesson.

Adopt a dog.

What do you do when life gets messy? Drink some tea, go for a walk in the woods, have dinner with a friend, sleep a lot.

What do you love about yourself? I love my ability to grow and evolve. I love my mental toughness and I love that it’s a muscle that gets stronger with life’s challenges. And I love my ridiculous curly hair, which took me 25ish years to fall in love with.

What has been your favorite journey? Starting to run two years ago cracked me open to rewriting all of the stories I told myself – I’m not athletic, I’m not strong, I lack toughness, etc. Being a runner proved to me that none of them are true, and it started a snowball effect of proving so many of my old stories wrong. Each time I train for a race, I learn new lessons about my own power, and I have immense gratitude for what my body is capable of.
